Go Go Guerrilla Launches

Posted by chaska on June 30, 2009

GGG WebSqCheck out the newest joint venture between Palmyran Rebels’ fearless leader, Chris-Rachael Oseland and BVS’s event savant, Jo Self. We have teamed up to bring you economical and fabulously fun guerrilla events around the Kentuckiana region. All are welcome, but as a BVS member, you are already a part of the movement. You need only confirm that you want to be added to our mailing list and the $10 registration fee for you is waived. So far we’ve had cocktails in an empty strip mall, enjoying Cuban cocktails and a water gun fight and watched Monty Python’s Holy Grail in the lot on Main St where you’ll find the Forecastle trailer, thanks to the graciousness of the landowners, Benjamin and David. Join us on Thursday, July 2 for our Red, White and Blue Cocktails, somewhere downtown – and if you’re thinking patriotism, think again… we’ll be celebrating our French Heritage instead complete with our own Bastille and delicious cocktails and of course, cake. Learn more here or here.

november events update

Posted by chaska on November 15, 2008

Just a quick update on our November activities. The cool seems to finally be settling in so winter must be on its way. In order to keep you nice and toasty, we created a couple events to warm the insides. We’ve partnered with Derby City Espresso for these cool months and have some great – and inexpensive – events planned for you.

Tuesday, November 18, 7pm
Tuesday Tastings – Beer 101
Derby City Espresso – led by Matt Landan
331 E. Market St
$10 includes all tastings plus light bites that will compliment our beverages of choice for the evening
Join us for our first class on beer. Learn the difference between ales and lagers and what falls into each category. We’ll try several different styles and learn about the basic of the brew. You will enjoy roughly 7 different styles, complimented by some light bites that will help cleanse the palate and fill the tummy. RSVP kindly appreciated.

Friday, November 21, 7pm – 9:30pm, happy hour style
Derby City Espresso – led by Jo Self
Miracle on Market St – Miracle Fruit Tasting
$10/members,   $15/non-members
If you missed the members’ only version, now’s your chance. We’ve (Stephen Dennison and myself) expanded the flavor sensation to include up to 50 different foods to try in order to experience the full effect of the Miracle Berry. RSVP prepaid is required for this event as purchase of berries and food is required. You’re welcome to just show up, but we cannot guarantee that there will be enough to go around without an advance RSVP. If you RSVP and can’t make it, 50% will be given to you as a credit toward your next event.

Tuesday, November 25 7pm
Derby City Espresso – led by Matt Landan
Tuesday Tastings – Coffee 101
$10 includes all tastings and tasty treats that compliment our beverage of the evening
Join us for an exploration of coffee. This first class will examine how brewing techniques can affect the flavor of the bean. We’ll taste: slow-drip, espresso, mochetto, french press just to give you an idea. RSVP kindly appreciated.

Thursday, November 27 5pm
Orphan’s Turkey Day
My house – Potluck style
This dinner is traditionally an opportunity to prepare that one dish you never get to eat or that you remember from your childhood – those turkey day favorites. I’ll prepare corn pudding and mashed sweet potatoes with crisp marshmallow topping – and if it comes to it, I’ll make the turkey as well. You bring whatever dish you’d like to share. I’ll provide the wine and soft drinks… BYOB otherwise. RSVP in the comments here and let us know what you’re bringing. I’ll share my address with those who RSVP. If you’re unable to cook or BYOB and small $ contribution would be appreciated.

  • Stay tuned for details on the Orphan’s Christmas Eve Dinner and cocktails – we’re going to enjoy a traditional Spanish Christmas dinner this year! Also, we’ll have more tastings at DCE…

miracle fruit tasting – sneak peek a success

Posted by chaska on November 13, 2008

1108miraclesm We had our first sneak peek tasting of Miracle Fruit the other night and had tons of fun trying all kinds of normal and not so normal fare with it. Stephen Dennison, a fantastic and edgy mixologist and chef here in Louisville was in attendance and we had a great time working through our tasting and taking notes. We hope to actually create a dinner around some of our findings and expand the tasting when we hold our public “taste tripping” party on November 21 at Derby City Espresso. Stay tuned for more details.

Click on the pic below for a larger view of the tasting notes.

november supper speakeasy next sunday

Posted by chaska on November 3, 2008

FYI: As this is really a happy hour, you are welcome to arrive anytime between 4 and 6 and stay for as long or as little as you like.

It’s finally here, the “come-and-get-that-awful-election-taste-out-of-your-mouth” party. No matter who you voted for, I’m sure most of us are ready to stop seeing campaign commercials and listening to every pundit out there. So, come try something a little different… miracle fruit.
Please RSVP no later than this Friday. Prepayment is required for this event as accurate food and tablet counts are imperative. The couple of people who have had a chance to try this so far have been pleasantly surprised with the fun results – hope to see you there!

Wine & wisdom of magic with gregg lambert

Posted by chaska on October 22, 2008

Gregg Lambert

Gregg Lambert

Join us for an evening of food, wine and magic at an ole Louisville favorite, The Galt House, Thursday, October 30 from 6-8pm.  This exciting new dining series will feature well known Magician and a Galt House favorite, Gregg Lambert presenting the wisdom, history and artistry behind magic!  This happy hour Wine & Wisdom will have heavy appetizers and 2 complimentary glasses of wine for $30 (includes tax but not gratuity)

As a special treat, those who attend will be given a sneak preview to taste the Miracle Fruit – a berry known for its ability to numb the bitter and sour flavors and make everything taste sweet. So, a plain lemon would taste like lemonade. This is a big trend starting in NYC and LA and you could be among the first to get a sneak peek before our public release in November.

The Wine & Wisdom series are presented every other month and held at local venues featuring a different guest speaker of wisdom and wines to match the theme. Wine & Wisdom events will usually feature a 4-course meal matching with the theme and the wines.

The event will begin at 6:00pm

Where: Jockey Silks Lounge in the GH West tower, 2nd floor.
Cost: $30 including tax but not tip
