Food. Community. Connection.

Posted by chaska on April 24, 2010

FOOD. COMMUNITY. CONNECTION. Bon Vivant Savant is evolving and we couldn’t be more excited. The website you are currently viewing will be changing – radically – in about four weeks. We’ll be posting an image of the new design, just a little temptation for you, just after Derby. And believe me, I think you’ll be excited too. Don’t worry though, our great dining events like the Supper Speakeasy and Wine & Wisdoms aren’t going anywhere. We’re still fully dedicated to our dining club members, but we’re also developing great in-home parties with BVS@Home as well as developing our website into a fully interactive online, lifestyle magazine that will focus not only on Kentuckiana, but will also grow to incorporate Lexington, Northern KY, Cincinnati and the surrounding regions. We’ll bring you the best our community has to offer: food, arts & entertainment, people – all in the vein of living well and living wisely!

Interested in contributing? We’ve got some great contributors lined up already (we’ll be announcing more after Derby), but we’d like to hear from you, our readers. We’re looking for great stories, photos or videos on local life – whatever that means for you.  Want to share your passion for art, music, food, your city, your job, your family, your volunteer work? Great, it’s all about living life to its fullest. Full credit and appropriate links will be given for all content utilized by the site. Contact me directly for more info.

Chef @ Home – Annette Saco

Le Gallo Rosso Restaurant
1325 Bardstown Rd

Guest Chef for June’s Supper Speakeasy (originally to be held in April)

I have had the amazing fortune to both dine at Le Gallo Rosso and become great friends with the chef, Annette. I first dined at the restaurant in late 2006 and continued to bring a new friend with me almost every week to this lovely hidden gem I had discovered – hidden in one of the more popular areas of Bardstown Rd., right next door to The Bristol.  Next month, LGR celebrates 3 yrs in business and they have a lot to celebrate! Recent renovations have incorported the enitre building, with beautilful Italian inspired fresco designs by Jan Rawlings and the long awaited return of wine! And with the best, traditional Italian menu in the city, a tiramisu to die for and flanked with what may be one of Louisville’s best short wine lists – prepared primarily with Vintner’s Select Wines and only an $11 markup per bottle – you really can’t go wrong. Stop by and say hi to Annette, she’d love to see you!

Favorite Meal at Home:
Breaded Pork chops with mash and corn

Favorite Snack Food:
ice cream

Favorite drink/beverage:
Naked fruit drinks

Any wind-down habits?
Get in my pj’s and have a cup of coffee or tea

Favorite place to eat – locally:
Mayan cafe, Toast, small chinese joints

Are you native to Louisville?
No, from Cleveland Ohio. I came down for my first chef position.

Favorite thing about Louisville:
Friendly and out going people, love the small town feel

Who you look up to in life:

Who you look up to in cooking:
My mom and Emeril, Iron Chef group

Primo Restaurant News

Posted by chaska on July 25, 2008

Exciting news from Primo at 445 E. Market in downtown Louisville. Bim Dietrich has teamed with Chef Nick Lynch and Chef Jeff McCracken to bring us a new menu at Primo. Jeff, most recently at the Seelbach, returns to Primo where he was originally the sous-chef. And Bim, pulling a couple of favorites from Allo Spiedo, has also added some more ‘meat & bones’ to the list with the addition of several delicious sounding beef, chicken and fish selections. In addition to a tasty and value oriented 2 course Executive prixfixe lunch menu, they’ve also added a special Wednesday Night Happy Hour, starting in August, which includes $5 wines, martinis and pizzas. Click on the post below to see full details.
