Picnics and Flicks 2009 Schedule announced

Posted by chaska on May 11, 2009

PF09 posterWoohoo! I’m very excited about this year’s line-up and think you will be too. Not only have we changed venues, we’ve also added food, beer and much more merriment! Plus, the local charity will change monthly to spread the wealth and awareness of great local non-profits around the area. Charities have yet to be fully scheduled, so if you’d like to promote yours, let me know and we’ll see what we can work out.

This summer, we’ve moved our outdoor movies to BBC Taproom, downtown at Main and Clay. So, we’re now a true Brew and View and will be watching rain or shine. Should it rain, we’ll just move inside the brewery. J Gumbo’s will provide the food all year as well. Bring your chair, air mattress, comfy sitting unit, your own food/non-alcoholic drink or buy it there. Looking forward to a great, movie watching summer!

CHARITIES:
May 16 – Louisville Creative Center
June 20 – Neighborhood House Gardening Project
July 18 – Falls of the Ohio (in discussion)
August 15 – Still Open
September 19 – Still Open

To schedule your charity, become a sponsor or to ask questions, call: 502.287.2772

Newsletter – October/november

Posted by chaska on October 14, 2008

Mmmm, hot cider and pumpkin flavored everything!

Happy Fall everyone! I know the economy has hit a lot of us below the belt, but hopefully some of the upcoming events can bring a smile to your face – and not too great a shock on your pocket book. We do still have some of our regular events such as the Supper Speakeasy and the Wine & Wisdoms, but we are adding several lower cost events to the roster as well to ensure that we all still have a great way to get together and commiserate and converse!

You’ll notice that Matt Landan, from Derby City Espresso and I have teamed up to bring you some fun Tuesday Tastings, a regular series featuring coffees, teas and beers starting in November. A bit of fun, a bit of education and a great gathering space for meeting new folks and catching up with old friends.

We also have the first of two Miracle Fruit Twisted Tastings Parties. Our first one on Nov. 9, the “come-and-get-that-awful-election-taste-out-of-your-mouth” Party, will be open only to newsletter recipients and their guests with a special pricing. And no matter who you voted for, at least (I hope) it’s over with and decided. The public party on Nov. 21 will be open to all at our regular price.

Happy Halloween! Feliz Día de los Muertos! Feliz Día de los Santos!

Be sure to get out and vote – and remember no vote is ever a wasted vote! And by not voting, you’re only giving more power to those who do.

Be among the first in Louisville to try this amazing trend that’s sweeping the nation. Miracle Fruit tastings are growing and amaze and astonish with every tidbit tried. What is Miracle Fruit? So glad you asked. It’s a berry that grows in tropical regions that alters your taste buds so that your bitter and sour taste sensations are gone and you’re just left with sweet. Lemons taste like lemonade, Guinness tastes like a milkshake and bologna sandwiches taste like cake (or so the rumor has it). We’ll be enjoying the fruit in tablet form as the berries are on backorder everywhere, plus the altering sensation is 3x the potency in them as well.

Mark your calendars for the following Tuesday tastings, starting at 7pm. More details to follow at the beginning of the month.

Nov. 11 – Coffee Cuppings
Nov. 18 – Beer Swiggings
Nov. 25 – Tea Tastings

Ghostbusters! saturday, sept 20, 7pm

Posted by chaska on September 13, 2008

WE ARE STILL HAVING THIS EVENT. THE POWER OUTAGES HAVE NOT AFFECTED US.  HOWEVER, WE HAVE MOVED THE SCREEN TO THE SOFTBALL FIELD AREA… WHICH IS A LITTLE WAYS PAST THE MAIN ENTRANCE ON FREY’S HILL. SIGNS WILL GUIDE YOU. THANKS – JO

It’s finally here, our last outdoor movie of the season. Join us at EP Tom Sawyer State Park as we show “Ghostbusters” on our 40′ outdoor screen provided by Louisville Audio Xterior. Movie starts at sundown (approx. 8:30) but before then we start the fun and frivolity at 7pm with live music as well as cornhole and other little games for the kids and kids at heart. We’re super lucky this time to have two live acts: Justin Lewis – and if you haven’t seen this kid, by all means come down and enjoy, he is amazing. Acoustic guitar and a bluesy voice that will take you by surprise. We also have the University of Louisville Community Band who will perform some of their Halloween favorites – perfect for getting us in the mood for the fall season. All this plus free popcorn and lemonade, and just for $5 a person. A postion of the proceeds benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters can bring their littles for free. As always, BVS members are free as well.

E.T. Phone Home!

Posted by chaska on August 16, 2008

Remember those magic words? Remember how cute little Drew Barrymore was? Remember how they digitally changed the gun in the officers hand to a walkie-talkie? Seriously, they did.

Well come on out and live the magic once again as we show ET on a 40′ screen at EP Tom Sawyer State Park. The band Weber starts at 7:30 and movie will begin at sundown. And there’s a bonus – we have a full moon tonight with a lunar eclipse – it couldn’t be a more perfect evening.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, plus we’ll have voter registration on hand to answer questions or get you registered for that big election season coming up – you may have heard something about it.

BVS Members – Free, Public – $5

And honestly, live music, a movie, free popcorn, games… it’s a steal at twice the price! See you there!

TASTEBUD TREATS
Grilled Summer Salmon w/ Mustard and Herbs Source: © EatingWell Magazine and Cooking.com
Salmon cooks over a bed of lemon and fresh herbs to infuse it with flavor and keep the fish tender and moist. We like a blend of thyme, tarragon and oregano, but any of your favorite herbs will work. Make it a Meal: Serve with grilled new potatoes tossed in an herb vinaigrette and steamed green beans. For full recipe and side dish suggestions, click here.
